Why We Use Supima® Cotton: Not All Cotton Is Created Equal

You’ve probably worn cotton before. But you may have never worn cotton like this.

At Losano, when we choose cotton, it’s always for a reason. And when we want to elevate softness, strength, and long-term durability — Supima® cotton is our go-to.

So what is Supima, how is it different from standard cotton, and why do we consider it a clean fashion essential? Let’s dive in.

What Is Supima Cotton?

Supima® is a trademarked type of cotton grown exclusively in the U.S. It represents the top ~1% of cotton grown worldwide and is made from extra-long staple (ELS) fibers, which make it:

  • Softer than conventional cotton

  • Twice as strong, so it lasts longer

  • Naturally more colorfast, meaning your pieces resist fading over time

Its full name comes from “Superior Pima,” referencing its origin from the Pima cotton plant — but not all Pima cotton is Supima.

What Sets Supima Apart?

It’s not just better cotton — it’s traceable, ethical, and grown with integrity.

Grown in the U.S. under strict environmental and labor standards
Fully traceable through licensed supply chains
Lower water footprint than conventional cotton
No forced labor, ever

At Losano, we love that Supima prioritizes both premium quality and supply chain transparency. That makes it a rare find in fashion — and an ideal fit for our standards.

Is Supima Cotton Non-Toxic?

Supima cotton starts out clean — but what happens in processing matters.

Many Supima fabrics in the market still go through toxic dyeing, finishing, or wrinkle-resistant treatments that can add:

  • Formaldehyde resins

  • Heavy metals

  • Optical brighteners

  • PFAS-based coatings

At Losano, we don’t let that happen.

Our Supima cotton pieces are:

  • OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified, ensuring they’re free from harmful substances

  • Processed without endocrine-disrupting chemicals like BPA, PFAS, or phthalates

  • Finished without any skin-irritating softeners or synthetics

So yes — our Supima cotton is non-toxic, clean, and skin safe. Because you deserve nothing less.

Why We Use Supima at Losano

We believe that everyday basics can — and should — feel elevated.

Supima gives us the best of both worlds:

  • Incredible feel (like your favorite t-shirt, but upgraded)

  • Longevity that supports slow fashion (you’ll wear it for years)

  • Responsibility (no greenwashing, no cutting corners)

That’s why we choose Supima cotton when we want to craft pieces that feel effortless and thoughtful.

Common Questions About Supima Cotton

Is Supima cotton better than organic cotton?
They’re different. Organic cotton focuses on how it’s grown (without pesticides), while Supima focuses on fiber quality and durability. We use GOTS-certified organic cotton when sustainability is the goal, and Supima® when performance and longevity are key.

Is Supima cotton sustainable?
Yes, in part because of its longevity and traceability. It’s grown with less water than conventional cotton and doesn’t need to be replaced as often, reducing overproduction and waste.

Does Supima cotton shrink or stretch out?
It holds its shape better than standard cotton, thanks to its long-staple fibers. It’s also less prone to pilling, fading, or breaking down over time.

How Losano Keeps Supima Clean

Lots of brands use Supima. Few treat it with the care we do.

Losano’s Supima cotton is always:

  • Milled and dyed in OEKO-TEX®-certified facilities

  • Free from harsh chemical finishes

  • Blended only with safe, low-impact materials

That’s how we transform premium fiber into feel-good fashion that aligns with our non-toxic philosophy.

The Bottom Line

Supima® cotton may start as a luxury fiber, but in the right hands, it becomes so much more.
At Losano, it’s part of our commitment to better materials, better processing, and better impact.

It’s not just soft. It’s clean.
It’s not just durable. It’s thoughtful.
And it’s exactly what your wardrobe deserves.
